AMERICA SINGS! is a non-profit organization which creates massive, non-competitive choral music festivals... THE AMERICAN COMPOSERS FORUM links communities with composers and performers, encouraging the making, playing and enjoyment of new music. With 1,700 members and a wide variety of innovative and educational programs, the Forum has grown into one of the largest composer-service organizations in the United States. It currently has chapters in Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. AMERICAN GUILD OF ENGLISH HANDBELL RINGERS, INC, is dedicated to advancing the musical art of handbell/handchime ringing through education, community, and communication. The approximately 7,500 members, mostly directors of handbell/handchime choirs, seek to carry out the motto: "Uniting People through a Musical Art."

AMERICAN ORFF SCHULWERK ASSOCIATION Carl Orff was a composer and a music education visionary. Schulwerk, as envisioned by composer Carl Orff, is a way to teach and learn music and movement. Join AOSA for professional development, participation in a community of talented arts educators, and joyful discovery through music. Orff Schulwerk associations are active in more than 30 nations, worldwide.

AMERICAN STRING TEACHERS ASSOCIATION is a membership organization for string and orchestra teachers and players, helping them to develop and refine their careers. ASTA's members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. The organization provides a vast array of services, including instrument insurance, an award-winning scholarly journal, discounts on publications and resources, annual professional development opportunities, and access to collegial network of colleagues throughout the string profession.

BARBERSHOP HARMONY SOCIETY, in alliance with other a cappella organizations worldwide, is committed to enriching lives in every generation and community through the lifelong benefits of a cappella harmony singing. The Society is built on fundamental principles that drive our mission: that singing brings joy to our lives and world.

THE CONDUCTORS GUILD is the only music service organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art of conducting and to serving the artistic and professional needs of conductors. More than 1850 members represent all fifty United States and more than thirty other countries.

THE EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC AND MOVEMENT ASSOCIATION (ECMMA) is an organization for professionals whose membership represents the entire range of early childhood music and movement, including school music teachers, studio teachers, music therapists, university methods instructors, researchers, and material/methodology providers. ECMMA seeks to promote best practices by facilitating networking amoung the diverse professions that make up early childhood music and movement. ECMMA publishes a quarterly journal, Persepectives, for all its members.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE WIND AND PERCUSSION INSTRUCTORS includes university, college, and conservatory teachers. It encourages the effective teaching of wind and percussion instruments on the college level; serves as a forum for information; and supports fine music and instruments in wind and percussion. NACWPI also coordinates activities with other groups and encourages the performance of solo and chamber music. James R. West is President; Caroline Hartig is Vice-President; Richard K. Weerts is Executive Secretary-Treasurer. NACWPI is an MENC affiliated organization; its national and division officers are members of MENC.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY AND PERFORMANCE OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC -- The National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music (NASPAAM) is an organization whose purpose is to further the development and dissemination of African American music through advocacy, education, and performance. The organization is committed to providing leadership and motivation for music educators, musicians, and others interested in fostering the inclusion of African and African American music in education and society. The organization serves its members and others by increasing the awareness of Black Music and its contribution to the arts, culture, and society.

THE PERCUSSIVE ARTS SOCIETY (PAS) is the largest percussion organization in the world with more than 8,000 members and is considered the central source for information and networking for percussionists and drummers of all ages and skill levels. Established in 1961, the society is dedicated to promoting percussion education, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world. PAS publishes Percussive Notes magazine and Percussion News. PAS also produces the annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), featuring more than 100 concerts, clinics, master classes, labs, workshops, panels and presentations, an indoor Marching Percussion Festival, and the Drum & Percussion Expo. PAS is headquartered in Lawton, OK (580-353-1455), and is home to the Percussive Arts Museum and Library, which contain rare and unusual percussion instruments and scores.

SIGMA ALPHA IOTA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FRATERNITY’s mission is to encourage, nurture and support the art of music. Founded in 1903, SAI recently celebrated its 100th year with an exciting convention in Dearborn, Michigan. Compositions by Libby Larsen, Alice Parker, Robert Boury, Persis Vehar and others were given premieres, and almost $50,000 in scholarships was given. SAI has over 320 collegiate and alumnae chapters around the country, with more than 100,000 initiated members. SAI has been a pioneer in supporting music education, performance, and composition in colleges, communities, the nation, and the world. Through its foundation, Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc., assistance is given to the Kennedy Center, Brevard Music Center, Aspen, Round Top, and many other music facilities and programs.

SWEET ADELINES INTERNATIONAL is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.

 

GUIDELINES FOR MENC AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS

Any organization that meets the following criteria may apply to the MENC National Executive Board for affiliated organization status: (1) it is a 501c3 non-profit national music organization established and functioning within a broad identifiable field of specialization within music with a concern and commitment in music education; (2) it has at least 500 members; (3) its constitution and bylaws do not conflict with the constitution and bylaws of MENC; and (4) it holds at least one meeting of its membership or its governing board each year.

  1. Every effort shall be made by MENC and each affiliated organization to achieve the closest possible consultation and collaboration in order to advance the cause of music education.
  2. The affiliated organization will cooperate as closely as possible in dealing with the federal government and with other organizations and agencies outside the field of music. MENC will endeavor to represent the interests of the affiliated organizations, as well as its own interests, in all such contacts. Each affiliated organization will support the mission of MENC in advocating for music education at the national, state, and local levels as well as supply some significant portion of their efforts to that end.
  3. The name of each affiliated organization, together with the name of its president, shall be carried in the listings of the MENC leadership. It is expected that each affiliated organization will carry a notice of its affiliated status with MENC. A link to the MENC Web page will be provided for those providing a link to MENC.
  4. The president of each affiliated organization will be invited as an observer to each session for the MENC National Assembly.
  5. Each affiliated organization will remit an affiliation fee of $250.00 per July 1-June 30 Fiscal Year.
